Elevate Alaskan Music,
   Support Alaskan Musicians

MusicAlaska, aka AKIMI, is a non-profit project founded by artists
in 2016 to meet the needs of our community.

MusicAlaska believes in…

…the uniqueness and excellence of Alaskan voices over thousands of years
…promoting Alaskan music-making in all genres, across all mediums, and at all levels
…connecting Alaskan music makers with opportunities to be heard, both in state and around the world
…serving Alaskans regardless of location, demographic, music ecosystem role, or career stage
…fostering cooperation and collaboration over competition
…growing music communities that respect, support, and value all participants

MusicAlaska started as AKIMI, the Alaska Independent Musicians Initiative, under a fiscal partnership with the Northern Culture Exchange, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Having completed incubation, MusicAlaska is currently in the process of board formation and incorporation as an independent non-profit. A community advisory board of trusted individuals across the state offers guidance and accountability through this process to our team of working artists.

We are supported by the Alaska State Council for the Arts, the Atwood Foundation, the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council, the Rasmuson Foundation, and Frostline Studios, with seasonal and project support from many other Alaskan partners.
